Zombie (Cranberries)

About the band: The Cranberries were an Irish rock band, formed in 1989 with Dolores O'Riordan as the charismatic lead singer and face of the group. Her sudden death in 2018 resulted in the end of the band, after eight studio albums. Their total sales are between over 40 and near 50 million albums worldwide, making them one of the best-selling alternative acts of the nineties. The Cranberries currently have two songs in my list of about 200 best pop/rock songs of all time.

About the song: Zombie is a track from the 1994 album No need to argue. The song, inspired by the continuing wars in Northern Ireland, made a lasting impression and is generally considered their best. In contrast to the initial successes which had been more ballad style (like Ode to my family and Linger), Zombie is a loud and distorted rock song with hard guitars and hard voice. It is the classical nineties anti-war song: "With their tanks and their bombs and their guns, in your head they are fighting." Dolores really screams her anger. Run time 5:06.
