The rhythm of the heat - live (Peter Gabriel)
About the artist: Peter Gabriel (1950) is a British singer, songwriter, musician, record producer and activist. He rose to fame as the original lead singer of the progressive rock band Genesis. After leaving Genesis in 1975, he launched a very successful solo career, with so far 13 studio albums. Peter Gabriel currently has eight songs in my list of about 200 best pop/rock songs of all time (and one as a part of a duo).
About the song: The rhythm of the heat, was originally a track from Peter Gabriel's fourth studio album, but I prefer the live version from the 1983 album Peter Gabriel Plays Live. Right from the spellbinding opening chords, Peter Gabriel hits home his message on a scientist who gets fully absorbed by the dances of the African natives that he is studying, to the extent that he denounces his own background ("smash the camera - smash the watch") and merges with the natives in a frenzy dance, releasing all powers. Amazing. Run time 6:26.
