About the band: Santana is an American fusion jazz rock band formed in San Francisco in 1966 by Mexican-American guitarist and songwriter Carlos Santana. The band has undergone multiple recording and performing line-ups in its history, with Carlos Santana the only consistent member. They released 25 studio albums, of which several were commercially very successful. Santana currently have one song in my list of about 200 best pop/rock songs of all time.
About the song: Samba pa ti is a track from the 1970 Abraxas album and was a hit in Holland three years after the album was released. This is the only instrumental track in my list, brilliantly showing off Santana's guitar virtuosity against an organ-dominated background. It is one of the few tracks surviving from the times that I made a list of classic songs for the first time in 1973. Run time 4:34.
