Gold dust (Tori Amos)

About the artist: Tori Amos (1963) is an American singer-songwriter and pianist, and one of the most successful women in her genre. To date she has released 15 studio albums, many of which have received high praise. Tori Amos currently has eight songs in my list of about 200 best pop/rock songs of all time.

About the song: this song is from the 2002 album Scarlet's Walk , a stunning concept album of a imagined travel through America after the disaster of the September 11th terrorist attacks. The travel and the album end with the absolute highlight, the melancholic yet hopeful lullaby Gold dust. Its chorus represents the gist of Scarlet's Walk as well as what's in the heart of a confused and frightened nation: the feeling that the happy days are gone forever: "How did it go so fast you'll say, as we are looking back; and then we'll understand we held gold dust in our hands." Run time 5:56.
