About the artist: Joe Jackson (1954) is a British musician and singer-songwriter. He started as a New Wave artist, but gradually his style became more eclectic, and even classical. He released 21 studio albums, but Night and day was by far his most successful one. Joe Jackson currently has four songs in my list of about 200 best pop/rock songs of all time.
About the song: breakthrough albums are obviously a tough act to follow. That also holds for Joe Jackson, whose 1984 Body and soul album did not quite meet the extremely high standards set by Night and day. Still, the later album contains one absolute classic, the haunting ballad Not here, not now. After this album, Joe Jackson career moves have been erratic, including an ill-advised flirt with classical music, and he never managed to reach the same artistic levels as in these two eighties' albums. Run time 5:29.
