You're my best friend (Queen)
About the band: Queen are a British rock band formed in 1970. Their music is an eclectic mix of progressive rock, hard rock, heavy metal, arena rock and pop rock. They were huge in the seventies and eighties, but could not overcome the death of their charismatic lead singer Freddie Mercury in 1991. They released fifteen studio albums. Estimates of Queen's record sales range from 170 million to 300 million records, making them one of the world's best-selling music artists. Queen currently have three songs in my list of about 200 best pop/rock songs of all time (and one as a part of a cooperation).
About the song: You're my best friend from the 1975 album A night at the opera. It is of course impossible to find a similar follow-up to a monster hit like Bohemian rhapsody. Queen did not even try, and instead released this much more simple but lovely song from the same album. They still managed to score a UK top10 hit, the first hit written by bassist John Deacon. In line with the title, the song lyrically focuses on the importance of friendship in a relationship, and succeeds once more in demonstrating the band's fantastic vocal harmonies throughout. Less famous than Bohemian rhapsody, but I for one like it better. Run time: 2:52.
