Fragile (Sting)

About the artist: Sting (1951) is a British musician and actor. He was the principal songwriter, lead singer, and bassist for the new wave rock band the Police from 1977 to 1984, and launched a solo career in 1985. He released 13 studio albums, of which the first ones were the most successful. Sting currently has two songs in my list of about 200 best pop/rock songs of all time.

About the song: Fragile is a track of his second solo album, Nothing like the sun from 1987. It is arguably the most beautiful melody Sting has ever written. Deceptively simple at first, the song is actually rather complex, and it was a good choice by George Michael to include it in his cover album of the finest songs of the twentieth century. As usual for Sting in this phase of his career, the lyrics are complex and poetic, with lines like "If blood will flow when flesh and steel are one, drying in the colour of the evening sun - Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away, but something in our minds will always stay." Run time 3:56.
