About the band: U2 are an Irish rock band, formed in 1976. They have released 14 studio albums and are one of the world's best-selling music artists, having sold an estimated 150–170 million records worldwide. U2 currently have three songs in my list of 200 best pop/rock songs of all time (and one under the name Passengers).
About the song: the 1987 album The Joshua Tree catapulted the band into the super-group status of the late eighties and early nineties, not least because With or without you, the first single off the album, was their first #1 hit in the USA. The song is one of their most subdued, a great intimate rock ballad. Initially it suffered somewhat from overexposure, but gradually it has gone up in my appreciation again and now fully deserves the name classic once more. Run time 4:58.
