Here comes the flood (Peter Gabriel)

About the artist: Peter Gabriel (1950) is a British singer, songwriter, musician, record producer and activist. He rose to fame as the original lead singer of the progressive rock band Genesis. After leaving Genesis in 1975, he launched a very successful solo career, with so far 13 studio albums. Peter Gabriel currently has eight songs in my list of 200 best pop/rock songs of all time (and one as a part of a duo).

About the song: the shocking departure in 1975 of lead singer Peter Gabriel from prog rock giants Genesis had initially a remarkably small effect of the band, as they came up with the goods on their first album without him already one year later. We had to wait for another year to see what Peter Gabriel would be like as a solo artist. His first album, simply entitled Peter Gabriel, had considerable commercial success thanks to the single Solsbury Hill, but the real gem was the final track. Here comes the flood with its dominating refrain gives an intriguing peak about what the Genesis sound might have evolved into, had Gabriel decided to stay. He re-recorded the track for the 1990 compilation album Shaking the tree in a more ambient version, but I still prefer the original. Run time 5:39.
