One day in Paris (Martha and the Muffins)

About the band: Martha and the Muffins are a Canadian rock band, active from 1977 to the present. They had one international hit (Echo Beach), and a few more successes in Canada with their New Wave sound. In total, they released eight studio albums. Martha and the Muffins currently have one song in my list of about 200 best pop/rock songs of all time.

About the song: the most underestimated album of the eighties may well be the 1981 album This is the ice-age. It even was not available on CD until 2005, in spite of all the attempts by the band and their fans! By far the best song on an amazing album is the dreamy One day in Paris. Right from the fragile atmospheric start, with the distant sounds of Parisian church bells on a Sunday morning, this exquisite piano-dominated ballad evokes a beautiful day in the City of Light. Run time 4:20.
