He released 21 studio albums, but Night and day was by far his most successful one. Joe Jackson currently has four songs in my list of about 200 best pop/rock songs of all time.
About the song: Steppin' out is one of the highlights of the jazz-influenced 1982 album Night and day - an album that has stood the test of time, and still sounds as fresh and original as when it was released. The song at first sight is just about going for the fun of the city night life - until it dawns on you that it might actually be about ending your life. Released as a single, it became his first and only US top ten hit. Run time 4:25.
