On the border (Al Stewart)

About the artist: Al Stewart (1945) is a British singer-songwriter and folk-rock musician who developed a unique style of combining folk-rock songs with delicately woven tales of characters and events from history. He released sixteen studio albums, of which the ones from the mid seventies were by far the most successful. Al Stewart currently has two songs in my list of about 200 best pop/rock songs of all time.

About the song: On the border is a track from his most successful album, Year of the cat from 1976. It is a prime example of an excellent short pop/rock song, with a memorable strong melody, good instrumentation (those guitars!) and great lyrics. Al Stewarts voice may not be the most impressive in the business, but in this classic album he overcomes his limitations, partially thanks to the high-class production by Alan Parsons. Run time 3:23.
