Killer queen (Queen)
About the band: Queen are a British rock band formed in 1970. Their music is an eclectic mix of progressive rock, hard rock, heavy metal, arena rock and pop rock. They were huge in the seventies and eighties, but could not overcome the death of their charismatic lead singer Freddie Mercury in 1991. They released fifteen studio albums. Estimates of Queen's record sales range from 170 million to 300 million records, making them one of the world's best-selling music artists. Queen currently have three songs in my list of about 200 best pop/rock songs of all time (and one as a part of a cooperation).
About the song: the 1975 monster hit Bohemian rhapsody tends to overshadow all other Queen songs. In fact, their earlier efforts warrant just as much attention, in particular the hit single Killer queen, taken from the 1974 album Sheer heart attack. It has all the good Queen ingredients, but lacks the bombastic approach that marred some of their later works, in particular in the eighties. Killer queen was their first hit single in Europe - the earlier Seven seas of rhye only charted in England. Run time 3:00.
