About the band: Marillion is a British neoprog rock band formed in 1979. In the first period, charismatic front-man Fish was the lead singer, during which time they released four excellent studio albums. In 1988 Fish left the band to pursue a solo career, and Steve Hogarth took over. Another fifteen studio albums followed, but for me this second period is far less interesting than the Fish era. Marillion currently have one song in my list of about 200 best pop/rock songs of all time.
About the song: Kayleigh is a strong contender for the title 'best hit single ever'. This track from the 1985 album Misplaced childhood.is the ultimate rock love song. A strong melody, perfect instrumentation, Fish' awesome vocals, and good lyrics to boot (as well as great video). Run time 4:12.
