The ninth wave (Kate Bush)

About the artist: Kate Bush (1958) is a British singer/songwriter, who in 1978 topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks with her debut single Wuthering heights. Many hits (singles and albums) followed. She is generally seen as one of the greatest influences on a generation of female pop/rock artists who came after her. Kate Bush currently has seven songs in my list of about 200 best pop/rock songs of all time (and one as a part of a duo).

About the song: The ninth wave is the complete B-side of the album Hounds of love, in my opinion the best album ever. Although listed as seven separate songs (And dream of sheepUnder iceWaking the witchWatching you without meJig of lifeHello earth and The morning fog), Kate Bush herself baptized this uninterrupted combination of songs The ninth wave. Indeed, the songs belong together like one big prog rock composition, and the whole is far greater than each song individually. The music varies from semi-classical choruses to Irish jigs, with a helicopter borrowed from Pink Floyd thrown in for good measure. Kate Bush has never sounded so far out - and never so impressive. Run time 26:23.
