Bubbling under: Memento z banalnym tryptykiem (S.B.B.)

The Polish prog rock band S.B.B. (image credit) is one of my main discoveries of the past decade. Among their many jazz rock fusion albums from the seventies and early eighties, the 1980 album Memento z banalnym tryptykiem (Memento with a banal triptych is the rather unsatisfactory translation) stands out as more symphonic than the others. The highlight of the album, yes of their whole repertoire, is the epic 20+ minutes title song, which takes us through a large number of mood shifts, but always firmly anchored in strong melodies and passionate singing in Polish. An absolute masterpiece that is very close to far better known prog epics like Close to the edge and Supper's ready.
