43. Testament (Boudewijn de Groot)

Boudewijn de Groot (image credit) was a star in Holland in the sixties and early seventies, and going through a remarkable revival this century. His lyrics were often very critical, somewhat like a Dutch Dylan. His masterpiece is Testament (Last will), from the 1966 album Voor de overlevenden (For the survivors), which describes the feelings of a man who at 22 says goodbye to his youth to enter society and decides to leave his collected experiences to whomever he thinks they suit best. Outstanding lyrics, alternating between sweet and cynical, and a great melody to boot.

Other songs by this act that would have qualified: not applicable.
