79. They dance alone (Sting)

It took Sting (image credit) two years to come with the follow-up of his first solo album. Nothing like the sun from 1987 is at least as good, and contains two songs that are even better than anything on the predecessor. One of these is They dance alone (Gueca solo), his most ambitious and for me also his best song. Stings strong commitment to Amnesty International led him to compose this seven minute gem on the crazy mothers of Chile, who dance in public with pictures of their lost ones, the victims of the fascist regime. Stings integrity in dealing with such a heavy subject is never in doubt, and the result is awesome.

Other songs by this act that would have qualified: Fragile.
