100. Renee (Talk Talk)

Mark Hollis' band Talk Talk (image credit) reached their artistic and commercial peak with the second album, It's my life from 1984, which might well be the most underrated album of all time. It is a beautiful record on the crossroads between New Wave and New Romanticism - more than a little influenced by late Roxy Music, but still very much their own sound. Three songs of the album charted as single releases: It's my life, Dum Dum girl and Such a shame. But the best is the relatively unknown love song Renee, delivered in Hollis' characteristic half-wailing manner. The band released three more great albums, gradually shifting the style to a more and more quiet approach, before calling it quits. Definitely one of my  favourite bands of the eighties.

Other songs by this act that would have qualified: not applicable.
